NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
FUN and Heritage Open the New Year
January 8, 2018
Platinum Night, the prominent portion of the Heritage FUN Sale, contained numerous true rarities that had not been seen in the market for quite some time and many that had no listed NumisMedia price for the grade. The rare 1943 S Bronze Lincoln Cent AU53 NGC brought $228,000; there is only one in this grade and another six coins listed in higher grades with MS62 the highest. The current FMV for this grade is not available but the AU55 is listed at $231,250.

Many of the better date Walking Liberty Halves in the highest grades received strong bids in the Heritage FUN Sale and many had the CAC sticker. Some of these Walkers have a very low percentage of coins that meet the CAC requirements in the highest grades. What this means is if you sent in ten MS66 coins of the same date, only one or two might qualify for the CAC sticker. These coins bring strong premiums.
With 2017 and the FUN Show behind us, dealers can now shift their focus to the new year, and initially it looks like Morgan Dollars in all grades are a target, even if some of the buys are still slightly discounted.
Gold has maintained its strength above the $1,300 mark; in morning trading Gold is currently $1,319 and Silver is $17.10. One ounce Proof Gold Eagles are trading at $1,360 as long as they are in the OGP. Proof Silver Eagles have advanced to $40 each. Silver Dollars in VG and better are wholesaling at $22,025 per bag of thousand.
