NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Two Major Auctions at the ANA World's Fair of Money
August 10, 2015
Thousands of dealers and collectors are heading to Rosemont, Illinois this week for the most anticipated coin show of the year, the annual ANA World's Fair of Money. This show will have plenty of educational exhibits and seminars including Fundamentals of Grading, Coin Collecting Basics, and Boy Scout Merit Badge and Girl Scout Patch Workshops, among many others. With the metals beginning the week on a high note, dealers are hopeful that the bourse floor is active with confidence on the upswing.
This year's ANA contains two official auctions, one by Heritage Auctions and the other by Stack's Bowers Galleries. These major auctions will not disappoint. While there will be many highlights throughout these sales, the coin that draws our attention from the Heritage Auction is the 1849 C $1 Gold Open Wreath, certified as MS62 by PCGS. This is an exceptionally rare coin and is the finest known to date. The current FMV is $662,500; this coin should command well above this figure. The following list contains some potential highlights from the Heritage portion of the ANA Sale.
