NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
Dealers Expecting FUN to Spur Market Activity
July 6, 2015
This week dealer and collectors are heading to Florida for the Annual Summer FUN Show. While some dealers typically use this event as a working vacation, many collectors are viewing it as an opportunity. Even though the Market has drifted lower for Common Silver Dollars, Walkers, and Washington Quarters, there are still buyers looking to take advantage of this downturn. Dealers, of course, will be happy to move some stale inventory.
Heritage Auctions will host the official FUN Sale and it is sure to attract some spirited bidding activity. The Twin Peaks Collection highlights this sale and will feature several Territorial Gold coins. The most interesting could be the 1852 $50 Gold RE Humbert Reeded Edge; this is an AU55 certified by NGC and there are only 10 coins in this grade by PCGS and NGC combined and about 10 coins grading higher. This is always a very popular item when it comes to auction.
Another coin that will be highly sought after is the 1915 S $50 Gold Pan-Pac in NGC MS61; this is the Round variety. This coin has a tremendous collector following and is most affordable in this so-called lower grade. An additional interesting fact about this coin is that the original mintage was 483, yet, there are a total of 779 certified in all grades by PCGS and NGC. Obviously, resubmissions have skewed this total.
One of the most highly regarded Morgan Silver Dollars is also available in the Heritage Sale. The 1893 S is a coin that always brings buyers to the table. This MS63 Morgan is certified by PCGS and is exceptional for the grade and should command a nice premium. There are only 13 coins certified in this grade with just 23 that grade higher. Below are some of the other potential highlights from this sale.
1893 S Morgan Dollar MS63 PCGS is available at the Heritage Auctions Summer FUN U.S. Coins Signature Auction in Orlando, Florida, July 9-12, 2015

The first half of the year is over and the metals do not seem to be showing any signs of a major advance on the horizon. Gold is lingering at $1,173, which is down a little over $10 in the last two weeks. This puts the one ounce Proof Gold Eagle at $1,348 wholesale. The Proof Silver Eagle has not changed, currently at $46. Over the last several weeks the premium for Proof Platinum coins has been on the rise. One ounce $100 coins are up to $1,285 in the OGP.
