Moderns Market Lacks Previous Demand
Dealers are preparing for what they hope will be an active Whitman Convention in Baltimore this week. While the metals have been lethargic the past few weeks, some buyers have been taking advantage of these lower prices. More dealers have become active in trying to reduce all-purpose inventory so prices are quite reasonable (mostly for the more common coins).
Lower metals have pushed prices down for various supplies that are traded on a regular basis. Circulated Silver Dollars are still very much in demand. They are currently at $28,150 for a bag of 1000 VG's. Ninety percent Silver is trading at $23,425 per bag. Proof Silver Eagles in the original boxes are $58 - $59 per. Proof Gold Eagles have dropped to $1,775 each for one ounce. The 2009 UHR is lower across the chart from the MS69 grade on down. The MS69 is now at $2,650.
In this week's Moderns Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide Lincoln Cents through Presidential Dollars show very few adjustments. However, there is still interest in highest grade coins in Lincoln Cents. For example, the 1943 S Zinc Cent in MS68 is up to $1,950 Market. The Doubled Dies also attract buyers with the 1972 up to $950 in MS66 Red and the 1983 at $480 in the same grade. There continues to be a drop-off in values for the Modern Proof 70's that have high populations. The State Quarters in Clad and Silver show extreme weakness because there just are not enough new buyers for the quantities available in the market. Sacagawea and Presidential Dollars are following this same pattern.
