Public Active at Long Beach

The Long Beach Coin Expo was quite successful for the majority of dealers. Dealer attendance may not have been as many as expected, but the public was well represented. Sales are still heavily concentrated in bullion related coins, bars, and bags. Nonetheless, dealers continue to look for coins in all series that possess the following characteristics: low population for the grade, eye appeal, and better dates that are not readily available.

As a result of recent activity, there are a number on increases to Type I $20 Gold Liberties. Many of the XF to AU58 coins being discounted are washed or scrubbed. Nice original coins will command higher buys from dealers because they have ready and willing buyers for these coins if they have eye appeal and no negative attributes.

With Gold currently nearing the $1,550 mark, the Proof Gold Eagles in the original government package are trading at $1,670 among dealers. The Proof Silver Eagles in OGP are trading at $74 with Silver around $36.90. Bags of 90% Silver are trading at $26,225 and Very Good Silver Dollars are up a little at just above $32,000 per bag of 1,000.

In this week's LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide the majority of coins are stable at present levels, although there are a variety of advances in most charts. This past month has seen a number of 1856 Flying Eagle Cents trade in various grades. The PR64 is now up to $17,000 Market. The 1858 Large Letters in MS65 is higher at $2,900 and the same coin in PR64 is $10,500. Several 1909 S VDB Lincoln Cents have sold over the last few weeks with the MS66 Red down just a little at $11,000 Market. The MS62 RB is up to $1,650 and the MS65 is now at $3,250. There are several other Lincoln Cents showing progress as of late.
