NumisMedia Weekly Market Report
February 14, 2011
Solid Bullion Sustains Confident Market
A strong showing for metals this past week has lifted bullion coins to higher levels. Gold moved back above $1,360, while Silver jumped over $30. Platinum has been very strong of late, now gliding past $1,800 an ounce. Proof Silver Eagles in the original government package have drifted down to $50 wholesale, even though the Market price for PR69's is steady at a minimum of $53. Despite higher Gold the Market for PR69 $50 Gold Eagles has fallen to $1,525.
There are several increases in the Kennedy charts this week as noted in the Moderns Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide. The 1964 Accented Hair in PR69 has increased to $525 Market. In addition, some of the Deep Cameo PR70 issues are in demand at higher levels. The 1968 S is up to $3,150, the 1973 S advanced to $2,175, and the 1976 S Clad rose to $3,100. Many of these early Kennedy Halves are very much in demand by Registry collectors. Further, several of them have not been graded and others do not have active Market prices available.
Many earlier dates are showing progress in other Modern series as well. Proof Jefferson Nickels have a few increases for the pre-1942 dates and the higher the grade the more aggressive the buyers become. Also, the 1953 Deep Cameo in PR67 is now at a higher $1,450. Early Washington Quarters appear to be back in play. Demand has increased for grades MS66 and higher for coins dated prior to 1964 and there are numerous advances in this week's chart.
