1913 Liberty Nickel Moves West

There is plenty of excitement in the market these days but the most fascinating news may well be the sale of the finest known 1913 Liberty Head Nickel which changed hands for $5 million. This is the Legend coin graded PR66 and previously a part of the Eliasberg collection; it now belongs to a very advanced west coast collector wishing to remain anonymous. Indications are that rare coins are still very much in demand.

NGC has begun to certify and grade original soft pack GSA Morgan and Peace Dollars along with Ike Dollars. They will be sealed in a semi-rigid clear plastic case with a label describing the coin and grade. These coins will soon be on the market and it will be interesting to see trading levels for some of the better dates in the GSA packages.

The overall coin market continues to be very selective. Collectors know what they want and common coins are not on the list. There is plenty of money in the market for the coins that have history, eye appeal, some rarity, and are priced appropriate for the grade. However, price is not the most important element. Collectors know there is strong competition for desirable coins.

Over the last couple of weeks the metals have remained within a fairly tight range. As of 8:40 AM Pacific Time, Gold was $680.10 and Silver $13.49. Platinum was $1299.
